was at the allotment at 6am this morning for some watering —- oooh it was so lovely and fresh there and the sun so gentle……     by the time i left the sun was hot!

So potatoes earthed up, peas climbing, garlic and onions doing well, courgette and fruit bushes in… gladioli and dahlias in… just the sweet peas and brassicas to go!

another busy day down on the allotment!   Peas are in, covered with fleece against the chilly nights.  Potatoes in - now we wait!   Raspberry canes in! (still got to cage them and put in supports….), onions and garlic doing well - shallots a little slow!

Still - at least we have had rain this week - so something is happening!

three photos of the same shot.. but am enormously proud of my first ever red pepper!   Until this year i have only managed to produce fairly limp and green affairs (hmm….?) and for the first time i have nurtured a pepper through to red!  Hardly dare to use it..

and the tomatoes keep coming  Had a fantastic harvest this year - all shapes and sizes and wonderfully red and tasty with still the promise of green tomato chutney to follow.

now i am already planning for next year…………..

so..

my project for my holiday time at home was to “re-do” my front garden!   It had become congested, overgrown with bamboo, euphorbias and phormiums.   It was difficult to keep control of.. in fact it was OUT of control and it was becoming ugly!  So it had to change!

So yesterday i dug and dug, fertilised and cut and wearied myself totally (yes, i always do this an get told off by my family - but hey!  i love it!!!) removing deeply rooted bamboo as well as fertilising the heavy clay soil (with home grown compost :-) ) and replanted with mature box, white(ish) hydrangeas (the labels say they start of white and turn pink… why????)  white bergenias and white iris!   I intend to interplant with white tulips, white daffodils, white agapanthus and any other whiteness in bulbs or corms…for seasonal continuity.

This bed is north facing and could do with the brightness of white planting which will bring an ethereal quality to the front garden (esp at night).   It will be interesting to see how it develops… i have further work to do with this bed which contains other plants I am reluctant to chuck - so i have to find a home elsewhere for them first ;-) - oh no!  more digging and moving to undertake elsewhere……….

The wonderful thing about gardening is the creativity and evolvement of the space.   Today when i woke up and looked out of the window i got enormous pleasure from the newness of the planting - i cant wait to see how it matures…. oh… watch this space!  I will keep you posted!!!
